In Sep 2021, Mark age 57, was diagnosed with stage 4 incurable cancer. This came as a huge shock to him and his family but even more shocking was the news that cancer, that originated in his right kidney, had already spread to his bones (jaw, hips, ribs and spine). More recently he has also fractured his collarbone due to the cancer spreading. All this means that Mark is beginning to face some difficulties regarding his mobility and carrying out everyday tasks. There are many types of specialist equipment/furniture available that will allow Mark to retain his independence for as long as possible. Currently, an essential requirement is a riser/recliner chair to provide comfortable seating and to assist him in getting up. Mark served in the Royal Navy for 32 years, the majority of this time as a Physical Training Instructor and also a member of the Portsmouth Field Gun Crew. He also played in the first-ever game of Rugby League in the RN and played for the RNRL at Inter Service level as well as representing the Navy at Bobsleigh. He is not a person that would ask for or easily accept help/assistance, therefore InTouch the RNRL charity have decided to create this Mission to raise funds to assist Mark who has served his country and therefore, in our opinion, deserves a helping hand at this difficult time.
